assignment 2

My mother is an entrepreneur in her own right. She and her brother opened a compounding pharmacy, where she single handily took pharmaceutical sales from zero dollars a year to over four million. Also, my mother created another small business which involved selling makeup to cheer leading gyms around the country. This idea first developed for her because of my sister who was a competitive cheerleader for most of her youth life. The business started out simply from her helping the team’s coach fill a makeup order one year, and she recognized the potential opportunity of this industry. She was then able to turn it into a full-fledged niche market business, generating revenues of over twenty thousand dollars in two months of operation during the window of sales opportunity which is when all the cheer leading teams purchase their makeup for that up in coming year. The company is still successful today.

I enrolled in this class expecting to expand my own knowledge of entrepreneurship, to one day be able to open my own businesses.

  1. Hi JC,
It was nice being able to learn about your mom’s businesses. It’s nice being able to always have someone there who has been successful in the same career path you hope to take. I really liked learning about her make up business. I was a competitive dancer, so I know all about what that life is like. Your mom was genius to do something along the lines of what one of her children was doing.

  2. Hi JC! It was so interesting to read about your mother’s business. It’s so interesting how you were able to cover the wide range of businesses your mother has been able to successfully run. Specifically, I think it’s really cool that she is involved in both pharmaceuticals and cheerleading makeup. Those are such different things but clearly some entrepreneurial skills can be an overarching across types of businesses.
