Reading reflection 3

What surprised me the most about Steve Jobs was that he went to Atari to practice Zen meditation and learn about Hinduism, I new the he had experimented with LSD and even attributed his success to it, but I was surprised to learn he had a passion for Eastern culture. Steve Jobs was passionate and highly intellectual person, who had a great sense of stick-to-itiveness. He was also an extremely innovative thinker. It was confusing to me that Jobs seemed to be such a spiritual man but was so cruel to so many people that loved and supported him and disrespected people he was working with. If I could ask Jobs any question I would probably ask what his experience with Zen and other forms of meditations, as well as his experimentation with drugs was like and how it contributed to his success, and then I would want to get into talking about technologies with him. I absolutely think Steve Jobs values hard work simply due to the amount of hard work he put in in order ...

exit strategy

As far as an exit strategy for an endeavor as such, I would feel privileged just to make this dream become a reality. Even if it was just to be able to create and experience riding something of this nature that would be good enough for me. With that being said anything above and beyond that would be amazing. Being able to capitalize financially on something I have a great passion for would be the dream come true for me, and I assume for most people. If this idea were to ever come to fruition I would want to be playing a lead part in the venture. I would want to take it as far as I could and enjoy it for what it is until I felt that someone who deserved it could do it better, and then at that point I could sit back and just watch it happen.

failure

Failure is obviously a vital part of growth which cannot be avoided by anyone. Failure teaches us what not to do and helps us to optimize in any practice. One personal story I have relating to failure is working out. Working out is a prime example of failure because   that is what one is striving towards while practicing in essence. In order to grow stronger one must tear their muscles until the point of failure. For myself getting back into working out was and still is a very hard task because there is so much failure involved in success, also the failure is something that never actually goes away rather just evolves into other failures. With that being said this also exemplifies just about everything else in life and can be seen as the natural way of progression. If one does not have and failures facing them they must be complacent.

Whats next

What’s next for this venture is board production, creating prototypes and perfecting boards for optimum performance. The real growth for this venture is in development, It will simply be trail and error until the idea gets progressed to its maximum point. New boards and better technology will be the cutting edge of this venture.   People with this need are looking for the next best ride. The only expansion possible on this idea is going to be in other board sports and in shaping and creating other ways to ride a board in different conditions. It is practically endless in the possibilities of types of boards to create and different conditions to use them. In the end its really just meeting the need or want to coast or flow on a board and to be able to express oneself through it in what ever way the want. It is an experience that is hard to describe, and one that should be experienced by everyone.

venture concept

The opportunity here is the ever increasing desire to ride a mountain in the freest manor possible. Surfing is the first documented board sport to ever exist and ever since people have been recreating that feeling in every way possible. Out of surfing came skateboarding in the 50’s and by the 60’s came snowboarding. Snowboarding has been practically the same ever since using the same style boards and the same binding mechanisms to keep the rider attached to the board. A new trend in snowboard is inspiring snowboard shapers to design snowboards to more closely   mimic a surf type feel. Some people have even been bringing back old school original boards that have only a rope connected on the nose of the board to keep the rider attached   no bindings. The opportunity and the unmet need here is to create a board that allows for the ultimate ‘surf like’ experience on the mountain. This idea meets the needs of snowboarders, surfers, and skateboarders alike. With this becoming a ...

unfair advantage

For my idea, my advantage   is simply my understanding of the various board sport markets, as well as my vision for innovation. The unique part of this idea is really the conglomeration of elements from all of the core board sports i.e. surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding. It is an unfair advantage because very few people have the background I do with all of these sports, which would make it hard for any one to re-create or pursue this idea. On the technical side, the key element (other than board development) is the breaking mechanism. A breaking mechanism is absolutely essential for the success of a board sport like this.   Being that there are boards out there with very similar designs to the basic concept we are going for, a breaking system is essentially the only real differentiator here and is ultimately the thing that will   allow this idea to come to fruition.

20 A

For this assignment I was not able to get in contact with any companies, and in this niche market where this idea exists there may or may not be any companies worth talking to. I believe the only social network required for an idea like this is someone that knows and understands fully the technologies that would go into something of this nature. Someone who represents this is a company called jones snowboards founded by Jeremy jones a legend in the world of snowboarding and someone who has a great understand of the art of snowboarding. Also with a liking to the ‘art of flow’ and a great interest in surfing there company with all their knowledge in snowboarding and there progressive outlook tie   perfectly to this idea. Getting to meet and work with someone like Jeremy jones would be a dream and would be something that could quickly progress this idea .

idea napkin 2

My background regarding this idea is that I surf, skate, skim, wakeboard, snowboard etc. It would be a dream come true to see this idea come to fruition one day not only because how cool it would be, but also because the board sport industry would be the ultimate career for me. I am offering an alternative to other existing ways of riding a mountain. This gives riders the ability to experience the slopes in totally new way. I am offering it to snowboarders, particularly snowboarders whom perhaps have a history skateboarding or surfing or both. This product gives rider the ability to free ride in a whole new way. With an electrically paired breaking system the rider is able ride completely free from the board. This board will have a breaking mechanism built in where it can stop itself if the rider goes out of range of the connection.

Customer Avatar

My customer avatar most specifically is someone who is well versed in many board sports, especially in snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing. An avatar for this idea understands aspects from all three of these sports allowing them to incorporate the core principles from each which are needed to properly ride a board of this nature. An avatar for this idea would be able maneuver and carve the board   like they are surfing, while also being a able to spin and flip the board like they are skateboarding. With this being said I believe even novice to intermediate snowboarders would be customer avatars and would still be extremely excited about a product like this. Perhaps someone who has never been snowboarding and knows only   how to skateboard, surf, ect. may be a customer avatar as well. In conclusion my customer avatar is truly just someone who enjoys board sports, and whether or not its true, we all know the many stereo types that come along with this description.
